Selecting the future of our herd

With calving almost over it is time for us to finalise our semen order for mating season.  All the cows in our herd are bred using artificial insemination. Around 84% of dairy herds in Australia use artificial insemination. Most of the bulls used in our herd are Australian and contain genetics which have been proven in the Australian dairy system.

Breeding our cows using artificial insemination allows us to breed strong healthy cows which are suited to our pasture based system.  We aim to breed cows which efficiently convert grass to milk whilst remaining healthy and live a long life.  This breeding strategy contributes to the low carbon footprint of our milk.
